These open with your measurements filled in. For an L or T shape, the room is split into rectangles.

How to use the room planner

    1. Pick a shape to start: a rectangle, an L or a T. Or type a width and length and press Add rectangle.
    2. Drag a rectangle to move it. It snaps to 0.1 m. Drag the small square in its corner to resize it. Or use the boxes on the right.
    3. Set the ceiling height, and how many doors and windows the room has.
    4. Read the floor area, skirting length and wall area. Press a button to send the measurements to a calculator.

    Why use this planner

Rooms are often not simple boxes. A bay, an alcove or an L-shape makes the maths slower. Draw the shapes, and the planner does the adding up.

Rectangles that overlap are counted once, so you do not need to cut them neatly. One plan feeds the carpet, laminate and paint calculators, so you only measure once.

    Tips

    • Measure wall to wall at the longest and widest points. Round to the nearest 10 cm.
    • For an L-shaped room, use two rectangles that touch. They join into one room.
    • No mouse? Tab to a rectangle, then use the arrow keys. Shift moves in bigger steps. Alt with the arrow keys resizes.
    • Press Undo if you slip. It keeps your last 60 changes.

    FAQs

How do I draw an L-shaped room?
Press L-shape, then change the sizes. Or add two rectangles and drag them so they touch. The planner joins them and works out the area of the whole shape.
    What happens if rectangles overlap?
The overlap is counted once. We draw the plan on a fine 5 cm grid and count each square only once. The result panel tells you how much overlapped.
How is the skirting length worked out?
It is the distance around the room, minus the width of each door. Go back and set the number of doors to match your room.
How is the wall area worked out?
Distance around the room × ceiling height, minus 1.5 m² for each door and 1.2 m² for each window. These are standard sizes. The default ceiling height is 2.4 m.
    Is my plan saved?
Yes, in your browser on this device. Nothing is sent to us. Press Share link to open the same plan somewhere else.
